/>OVERVIEW:
coe_stats.sql verifies the statistics in the data dictionary for all tables
owned by installed Oracle Apps modules. It generates a dynamic script
coe_fix_stats.sql and a report coe_stats.log.
The generated report coe_stats.log contains the list of tables that need
to be analyzed, including the actual (former) number of rows and the
suggested sample size for the next statistics gathering.
The dynamic script generated coe_fix_stats.sql includes the commands to
execute the FND_STATS packege to gather the statistics based on the number
of days since last analyzed and the size of the table.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Run coe_stats.sql with no parameters and review coe_stats.log file. For this reason, the Shared Pool should be sized to ensure that frequently used data is cached. If there is not enough free space in the Shared Pool, then Oracle must search for and free enough memory to satisfy this request. This operation could conceivably hold latch resources for detectable periods of time, causing minor disruption to other concurrent attempts at memory allocation.
By default, Oracle configures a small Reserved Pool (or Reserved Area) inside the Shared Pool. This memory can be used for operations such as PL/SQL and trigger compilation or for temporary space while loading Java objects. After the memory allocated from the Reserved Pool is freed, it returns to the Reserved Pool.

5% of the Shared Pool is set aside as the Reserved Pool to handle allocations of memory higher than defined by the hidden parameter _shared_pool_reserved_pct. Issue
select a.ksppinm "Parameter",
b.ksppstvl "Session Value",
c.ksppstvl "Instance Value"
from sys.x$ksppi a, sys.x$ksppcv b, sys.x$ksppsv c
where a.indx = b.indx and a.indx = c.indx
and a.ksppinm = '_shared_pool_reserved_pct';
to see the current setting in your environment. In some application environments, 5% is too small. If an ORA-04031 problem indicates a very large memory request failure, increase the size of the Reserved Area by manually setting SHAREPOOL_RESERVED_SIZE or if using SGA_TARGET>0, change the hidden parameter, _shared_pool_reserved_pct to 10 or 15 (see example below) to ensure that when the Shared Pool grows or shrinks automatically, the Reserved Area will change as well.

Warning:
If you decide to use the SHARED_POOL_RESERVED_SIZE parameter and SGA_TARGET>0, you may experience ORA-4031 situations on large memory requests because the MMAN process may be increasing the size of the Shared Pool over time, while the Reserved Area remains constant. Thus the Reserved Area may start out at 10% of the Shared Pool size, but over time it may end up 2% or 3% (much smaller than expected in relation to the new Shared Pool size).

The Reserved Area handles bigger memory allocations in an attempt to decrease the chances of fragmentation in the Shared Pool over time.
SQL> alter system set "_shared_pool_reserved_pct"=10 scope=spfile
or add this in the pfile
"_shared_pool_reserved_pct"=10
For large allocations, Oracle attempts to allocate space in the Shared Pool in the following order:
1. From the unreserved part of the shared pool.

2. From the reserved pool. If there is not enough space in the unreserved part of the Shared Pool, then Oracle checks whether the reserved pool has enough space.

3. If there is not enough space in the unreserved and reserved parts of the Shared Pool, then Oracle attempts to free enough memory for the allocation. It then retries the unreserved and reserved parts of the Shared Pool. These mini-flushes will clean out RECREATABLE memory chunks from the LRU list that have not been reused for a while
Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed Khan
Apps DBA “The PATHAN Boy”

How to execute forms and libraries and messages

====> go to adadmin
AD Administration Main Menu
1. This seems to be a cause of regular confusion, and recently a friend asked me to clarify how they ought to be configured. The new facilities in Solaris 10 makes such settings dynamic, but the controls to prevent overallocation are still there, albeit in a slightly modified form.
There are two approaches these days..
1. /etc/system (yawn, requires a reboot - why would you?)
2. Projects
The IPC settings are entirely controlled by projects these days.. the ability to set values in /etc/system is there solely for backwards compatibility, and simply sets the default values for the projects, and therefore should be considered deprecated.
Probably the best way to explain the use of projects to set default values is to run through a quick worked example of setting the shared memory max allocation (shmmax), with comments inline:
$ uname -a
SunOS deepthought 5.11 snv_69 i86pc i386 i86pc
It's reporting 5.11 as it's an OpenSolaris build, but same priciples apply to 5.10
$ id –a
uid=500(mike) gid=100(users) groups=100(users)
The user we're running as has no specific privs, such as would be the case with an Oracle application account (for example). There is no settings in /etc/system, so we're running with default values.
As an aside, this is running under VMware server on a Linux host with 256MB memory allocated to the VM. The default value of shmmax is calculated as physmem/4, so we ought to see maximum allocation around about 64MB
We can check what the max shm is going to be using Solaris 10 prctl command:
$ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory $$
process: 6905: ksh -o vi
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
project.max-shm-memory
privileged      61.9MB      -   deny                                 -
system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
$
That's reporting 61.9MB, which is pretty close to the expected 64MB. I wonder where the other 3.1MB went?
And to prove the point, I've just written a wee program that tests this, by creating (and destroying) increasingly large segments of shared memory (incrememnting by 1MB at each iteration). It stops when it fails and reports the last created seg.
$ ./findmax
Shared seg created with 61.0 MB
shmget failed!
$
So, here's how we increase it.. We need root privs, or a friendly sysadmin for this, as we're adding a new project for this user only:
$ su
Password:
# projadd -U mike -K "project.max-shm-memory=(priv,80MB,deny)" user.mike
#
Back on as me now.. (notice I'm logging on again by su'ing back to myself, rather than just exiting the "su" shell - this is deliberate)
# su – mike
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.11 snv_69 October 2007
$ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory $$
process: 7044: ksh
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
project.max-shm-memory
privileged      80.0MB      -   deny                                 -
system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
$
$ ./findmax
Shared seg created with 80.0 MB
shmget failed!
$

Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed Khan
Apps DBA “The PATHAN Boy”

Effective Unix Find Command:

Find by Date
Find . –name “*<file_name>*” –mtime +<no. of days>
